NAAP Symposium "Van dezelfde stof zijn wij als dromen -
Jungiaanse visie op de neurologie en psychologie van dromen"

De Nederlandse Associatie voor Analytische Psychologie (NAAP) organiseert haar derde symposium op zaterdag 13 november 2010 van 10:00-17:30 uur in Grand Kasteel te Woerden. De titel van het symposium is: "Van dezelfde stof zijn wij als dromen - Jungiaanse visie op de neurologie en psychologie van dromen".

Recente neurobiologische inzichten blijken zeer goed te passen bij de droomtheorie van Jung. Het symposium wil stilstaan bij deze nieuwe inzichten en aandacht geven aan de vraag hoe dromen gebruikt worden in de analytisch-therapeutische praktijk. De gastsprekers zijn Margaret Wilkinson en Murray Stein. Daarnaast zullen enkele NAAP psychoanalytici kortere voordrachten houden over het werken met dromen in de praktijk.

Dr Murray Stein behoeft ongetwijfeld geen introductie. Hij studeerde theologie aan de universiteit van Yale, promoveerde in Religie en Psychologie aan de University of Chicago en volgde zijn opleiding tot analyticus aan het C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich. Hij was president van de IAAP van 2001 tot 2004. Afkomstig uit Amerika, woont hij al jaren in Zurich alwaar hij werkzaam is als opleider en supervisor bij de International School of Analytical Psychology en hij is de schrijver van vele boeken waaronder: Jung’s Map of the Soul; The Principle of Individuation; Transformation: Emergence of the Self; en de in Juni 2010 verschenen herziene uitgave van zijn boek uit 1983: In Midlife: A Jungian Perspective. Na het verschijnen van Jung’s Red Book vorig jaar is hij een veelgevraagd spreker voor het toelichten, uiteenzetten en becommentariëren ervan. Zijn recent verschenen boek: Jungian Psychoanalysis: Working in the Spirit of Carl Jung, is een zeer rijke weerslag van tientallen jaren studie en ervaring van veertig vooraanstaande Jungiaanse psychoanalytici uit elf verschilldende landen.

Margaret Wilkinson is analytisch psycholoog uit Engeland en redacteur van het Journal of Analytical Psychology. Zij schreef het boek Coming into Mind, the Mind-Brain Relationship: A Jungian Clinical Perspective (2006) waarin zij tracht theorie en klinische praktijk met elkaar te verbinden en waarin ze aantoont hoe "in de 21e eeuw, kennis van neurologische inzichten essentieel is voor het voeren van een wetenschappelijk verantwoorde psychotherapeutische praktijk". In haar net verschenen tweede boek: Changing Minds in Therapy: Emotion, Attachment, Trauma and Neurobiology beschrijft zij hoe ontwikkelingen in het brein een rol spelen bij therapeutiche veranderingen en hoe het helen van trauma samenhangt met de werking van het brein. De laatste wetenschappelijke inzichten worden toegepast in de klinische praktijk bij de behandeling van trauma.

NAAP Symposium: "We Are Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On" - Jungian Views on the Neurology and Psychology of Dreams

The Netherlands Association for Analytical Psychology (NAAP) will present its third symposium on Saturday November 13, 2010, from 10:00 to 17:30 in the conference center Grand Kasteel te Woerden. The title of the symposium is "We Are Such Stuff as Dreams Are Made On" - Jungian Views on the Neurology and Psychology of Dreams.

Recent insights in the field of neurology can be seen to support Jung's psychological theories regarding dreams. The symposium speakers will examine these new insights as well as how dreams are used in analytical psychotherapy. The keynote speakers are Murray Stein and Margaret Wilkinson. In addition, several analyst members of the NAAP will present shorter presentations on working with dreams in their clinical practices.

Murray Stein, as one of the most widely published authors on analytical psychology, requires little introduction. After a masters from Yale School of Divinity, he trained as Jungian analyst at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, then earned his doctorate in religion and psychological studies at the University of Chicago. He was President of the International Association for Analytical Psychology (www.IAAP.org) from 2001 to 2004. Originally from the United States, he resides now in Zurich Switzerland where he is training analyst and supervisor at the International School of Analytical Psychology (ISAP). His books include Jung's Map of the Soul; The Principle of Individuation; Transformation: Emergence of the Self; Practicing Wholeness and the recently re-released classic from 1983, In Midlife: A Jungian Perspective. After the publication of Jung's Red Book last year, Dr. Stein is a widely sought after lecturer for his description, commentary, and interpretation of this important work. His lecture for the symposium will address the use of dreams in clinical practice and the unique prospective and mythopoetic approaches of analytical psychology.

Margaret Wilkinson is a Jungian psychoanalyst member of the Society of Analytical Psychology in London and an editor of the Journal of Analytical Psychology. In 2006 she published the book Coming into Mind, the Mind-Brain Relationship: A Jungian Clinical Perspective, in which she "aims to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice, demonstrating how awareness of the insights gained from neuroscience is essential if the psychological therapies are to maintain scientific integrity in the twenty-first century (notes publisher)." In her new book, Changing Minds in Therapy: Emotion, Attachment, Trauma and Neurobiology (April 2010), she "draws on her extensive clinical expertise as a therapist to explain the role of the mind-brain relationship in therapeutic change. The book covers issues such as how the brain works to assist in therapeutic change, and how healing from early trauma is tied into, and influenced by, brain function (publisher's notes)". Her lecture for the symposium will address the neurobiology of dreaming and the use of dreams in analytical clinical practice.
